Inmates to be Ambassadors of Change, Not of Crime

Founder of Nafisika Trust, Vickie Wambura Kairo, was inspired to start her organization as an answer to Kenya's repeat offenders - youth.

She learned that Kenya's youth continued to commit crimes after their release from prison. Wambura believed that the Kenyan penal system was not providing transformational experiences which helped inmates become agents of positive change rather than perpetrators of crime in their communities. With the Trust, youth participants have become valued employees, able to start their own businesses, and even become changemakers in transforming their communities.
