Social enterprises in Tanzania and Kenya are creating sustainable employment for women artisans, but more women could be empowered with investment from major fashion brands.

SEW (Supporting and Empowering Women) in Tanzania, a nonprofit social enterprise for HIV positive women aims to empower women through fashion by employing "sewing mamas" and providing them stable income. Soko, a self-sustaining manufacturing business located in a wildlife sanctuary in rural Kenya, works to engage consumers in ethical fashion by hiring women in areas with high rates of unemployment, prostitution, HIV and Aids and wildlife poaching.
