L.A. County Board To OK Mental Health Treatment Law That Aims To Reduce Incarceration, Homelessness


The Los Angeles County will be voting on a discretionary state law that enables court-ordered treatment for people struggling with serious mental illnesses.

Laura's Law, which was passed in 2002 but had only been fully implemented by Nevada County, "is a compassionate, cost-effective approach, proven to reduce incarceration and homelessness," as described by L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
