The College Access Foundation has awarded a $251,000 scholarship grant to the Northcoast California Student Opportunity and Access Program (CalSOAP) consortium for 2010-11.

Out of the 17 CalSOAP projects, the Northcoast CalSOAP project was one of two rural projects to receive this grant.

CalSOAP is a collaborative effort to increase awareness and access to higher education by raising the achievement levels of students from low-income and disadvantaged families. The Northcoast CalSOAP project provides academic tutoring, peer mentoring, college and career advising, college access and admissions counseling, test preparation, college tours, financial aid workshops and grants for college.

To date, more than $368,000 has been awarded to 180-plus local students to study at colleges and universities across the nation.
