Missouri Governor Signs Controversial \'Assistant Physician\' Law to Improve Rural Care

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has recently signed a new law creating a new classification of healthcare provider, an assistant physician, that will help ease primary care physician shortages in rural and underserved areas across the state.

With the new legislation, licensed medical school graduates who have note completed residency, are already allowed to practice medicine and prescribe drugs. The law aims to address the issue of supplying adequate healthcare in rural areas in the state.
