A new study by a Brigham Young University economics professor Joe Price finds that large gender gaps disappear during math competitions in schools. While boys are known to be better at winning in math competitions, the study reveals that girls can take a shot at it, too.
Since boys are prone to calculating with speed, a test with speed adjustments is conducted. The students are told that it's not a race. This made the girls compete evenly with the boys from the beginning. The report can be found in the recent Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization.
