Vacant Lots On Chicago Blocks Cost A Dollar Each?

In an effort to eliminate neighborhood blight, Chicago is giving away vacant lots for just $1 each. There's a catch, however. To obtain one, you must already own a home on the same block.

The Large Lot Program, which "will help return empty land to productive use," can help ignite a reinvigorated community in some of the city's most blighted areas. According to Demond Drummer, who has been involved with Large Lots and tech organizer at Teamwork Englewood, "We wanted to deliver a simple, intuitive way for local homeowners to find eligible city-owned lots on their block."
