Alaska Nonprofits Receive Federal Funding To Help Fight Off Veteran Homelessness


Two Alaska nonprofits have garnered $768,000 in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to help reduce veteran homelessness.

The funding was released through VA's Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. The funding will pay for the hiring of three full-time case managers at Catholic Social Services and items like rent, moving expenses, security deposits, child care, utility bills, postage, legal fees and job training for qualifying veterans.

The Larder Cook School in West Lothian is a social enterprise that trains young people for a career in the food business. Recently, the school has launched a crowdfunder to help it teach another 80 students a year.
