HHS Accelerates Ebola Vaccine Development

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) advances the development of a vaccine to prevent Ebola virus outbreak.

ASPR's Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) will render a total of $5.8 million in funds to further develop an experimental Ebola vaccine, along with the provision of technical expertise and assistance. The company is expected to submit an investigational new drug application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Once accepted by the FDA, the application would enable the vaccine to begin the first clinical trials for safety in humans.
