The study, called "Impact of the Safe Routes to School Program on Walking and Bicycling," finds that Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs are effective in increasing walking and biking to and from school.
Spearheaded by Noreen McDonald, CURS faculty fellow and director of the Carolina Transportation Program, the study was published in the Journal of the American Planning Association. McDonald's research team studied 801 schools in the District of Columbia, Florida, Oregon, and Texas to examine how the volume of students walking and bicycling to and from school changed after the introduction of SRTS programs.Read the Entire Article
