Teacher Desires to Climb Social Ladder through Philanthropy, Miss Manners Shoots Her Down

In an advice to American journalist and etiquette authority Judith Martin, aka "Miss Manners", a preschool teacher expressed her wish to move forward with her career from education to skin care.

However, the teacher earnestly desired to climb the social ladder by partaking in fundraising luncheons and doing philanthropy to meet the "right" people, meaning the rich. Miss Manners shoots her down, stating that philanthropy is attributed to the "compassion, respect and consideration for others and not cozying up to the rich."
