Seeking Solutions to Homelessness in Charlottesville

With chronic homelessness in Virginia down slightly by 3 percent, residents are still confronted with panhandlers and frustrated with the persistence of the problem.

One Charlottesville nonprofit PACEM, looking for new ways to fight homelessness is experimenting with a concept called "rapid rehousing."

In a small pilot program this year, PACEM moved a handful of homeless adults into small apartments, helped pay their rent, and assisted in the transition. The idea is to get people practiced being self-sufficient, and back into homes more quickly,

The Charities Aid Foundation has set up a scheme, called the Social Enterprise Assist, that will render interest-free loans of up to £10,000 each to help social enterprise start-ups.
