Between three to five years, a vacant Vancouver brownfield has been planted with more than 400 fruit-bearing trees. The city of Vancouver calls the site as the largest urban orchard in North America.
Solefood co-founder Michael Ableman manages the orchard along with his partner Seann Dory. Together, they integrate food security and locavorism with social enterprise by recruiting and training mostly Downtown Eastside residents to till the land at four different sites.
