US Agricultural Subsidies Contribute to Growing Obesity by Promoting Unhealthy Foods

Dr. Mark J. Eisenberg, a cardiologist and epidemiologist at Lady Davis Institute at Montrealís Jewish General Hospital, led a study that concludes US agricultural subsidy policies prompt rising obesity trends due to promotion of processed and energy-dense foods.

Researchers deemed that the ready availability and cheap cost of unhealthy foods has mired the nutritional environment of the nation. The study appears in the online July issue of American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
